December

A meeting l of the executive of the Pilgrims* Association was held yesterday afternoon, Mr E. R. Webb presiding. The president announced that Sir R. Heaton Rhodes had consented to a gar—Party being held in the grounds at Elmwood” on Saturday. December 3 2 It was resolved that Mr Leslie Hunt be thanked for the gift of an early man and several early ordinances. It was decided that as many members of the executive as possible should attend the opening ceremony of the Thomson shelter on the Port Hills on Saturday afternoon. The president stated that he understood Mr J. J. Thomson, donor of Thomson Park, would be presented with the “ freedom of the hills.” It was also decided to obtain an estimate of the cost of fixing the pedestal of Mrs Godley’s cross on the Bridle Path. Mr Hastings Bridge said that in his opinion It was not worth while spending much money on the memorial as the water from the spring near*by would probably be undrinkable and there was actually no cross, as set out in the inscription, which needed cleaning.
