HUNT CLUB’S YEAR.

Improvement in Waimate Finances. (Special to the “Star.”) WAIMATE, October 27. The annual meeting of th© Waimate District Hunt Club was held on Saturday afternoon, the president (Mr E. C. Studholme) being in the chair. Mr Studholme presented the annual report, which stated that the financial position of the Hunt had been improved despite the stringent depression that had existed during the past year. This had been the result of the committee deciding that if the Hunt was to carry on. substantial reduction was necessary in regard t 6 working expenses, and at a general meeting of members held on March 7 it was decided that the steeplechase meeting for this year be aban-

doned. and only the Point to Point be held. Further, that the hunting season be reduced to a short period of five hunts, and the number of hounds in the pack be also reduced. Arrangements were made with the huntsman. Mr J. R. Cochrane, to carry out his duties for the short hunting season at a considerably reduced rate, and also with the secretary to carry on in an honorary position as from the end of March. The financial result had justified the decision arrived at as the year commenced with a debit balance at the bank of £385 17s 3d. and it had closed with a debit balance of £321 14s 4d. With this improvement in the financial position of the club, the committeehoped that with the exercise of care and economy in a year or two the club would be placed in a sound financial position. The hunting season, although considerably curtailed on account of the financial stringency was very successful, great enthusiasm being displayed by those following, the average attendance at the meeting being well over twenty.
