SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Parties Held in Country and Town. Miss D. Bourne entertained a number of friends at her residence, River Road, Avonside, recently, in honour of Miss Ivy Hunter’s approaching marriage. The evening was spent in competitions, games and musical items. Miss Hunter was the recipient of many gifts. Those present included Mesdames Collins, Hopkins, Mein, Forrest, W. Lake, T. Lake, Gordon, Millar and Large, Misses I. Hunter, D. Bourne, H. Smart, A. Pascoe, M. • Manning, M. Lyons, M. Lake and M. Price. Social at North Beach. The North Beach and Waimairi Progress League held an enjoyable social and dance in the Peace Memorial Hall on Monday evening. Items were contributed by Messrs Horace Cornish, Wal and Con East and Douglas Suckling, and Miss Holly East. Amongst those present were:—Mr and Mrs T. Hodgson, Mr and Mrs C. Cooper. Mr and Mrs A. H. Sneesby, Mr and Mrs W. East, Mr and Mrs C. East, Mr . and Mrs S. W. Brown, Mr and Mrs C. J. Burns, Molly Norrie, Vera Martin, Margery Brown, Ivy Brown, Edna Greenhalgh, Holly East and Mary Hodgson: Messrs S. Leckie, D. Suckling, R. D. Martin. F. J. L. Scott, Frank Alabaster, P. Scott, C. W. Social at Horrelville. An enjoyable social evening was given by Mr and Mrs G. F. Beer at their home, “ Poplar Farm,” Horrelyille, on Saturday evening. The evening was spent in games and competitions. The music was supplied by Miss Helen Beer. Competitions were won by Misses Bertha Cree, Elsie Sheat, Daphne Blaclcmore and Margaret JackAmong those present were:—Mr and Mrs G. F. Beer. Misses Bertha Cree, Shirley Woodfield, Eileen Barr, Margaret and Enid Jackson, Jean Patterson, Daphne and May Blackmore, Mabel Thompson, Vera Bradley, E. and H. Beer, Ethel and Elsie Sheat; Messrs H. Plummer. A. Ball. R. Bradley, H. Pester. A. Burt, C. Patient, R. Beer, E. Bradley and L. Beer. Spreydon Croquet Club. The Spreydon Croquet Club was officially opened by Mr Ross in the presence of members and friends. The president, Mrs Petrie, said she was pleased to see so many friends present, and thanked all who had worked and helped the club. Mr Ross, in congratulating the ladies on forming a new club, expressed the hope that they would have many pleasant days on the green, and advised them to link up with the association.
