In the Royal Handicap, Mr Penalty (£542), King’s Guard (£487) and Mokanna (£321) were the best backed. The winner, Roi Grande, carried £162 and paid a good price. At the start Roi Grande, Mokanna and Mr Penalty broke up. Colonel Thorpe was the early leader, and the next time round was attended by King’s Guard and Roi Grande, the trio being followed by Mr Penalty, Mokanna and Appeal. King’s Guard took charge along the back, with Roi Grande handy. Then came Colonel Thorpe and Mr Penalty, but Roi Grande ran to the front crossing the top and led into the straight from King’s Guard and Colonel Thorpe, with Mr Penalty handy. In the run home Roi Grande had no difficulty in. winning by two lengths from Mr Penalty, who beat Colonel Thorpe by four lengths. King’s Guard, Mckanna, Win Huon and Appeal were next. Most support in the Manukau Handicap came for June Nordica (£533), Carnui (£531) and Daytime (£413). At the start, June Nordica and Van Newton were slow to move, and Hohoro led out, still having charge passing the stand from Carnui, Dad’s Hope and Van Newton. Then came Dan Direct, Denver City, Daytime and Sandy Pointer. There was little change along the back, where Daytime ran up handy to the leaders, and getting a good run on the fence, was just behind Hohoro, Carnui and Dan Direct as they turned for home, being followed by Dad’s Hope, Master Huia and Denver City. Hohoro tired over the last furlong. In a tight finish, Daytime, on the outside, got up in time to beat Carnui by half a head, with Dan Direct a similar distance away. Master Huia was fourth, followed by Dad’s Hope, Hohoro and Denver City. In the Prince of Wales Handicap the Milo Minto—Satin King bracket (£1044) drew most money, while Florent (£511), Mountain Dell (£492) and Jewel Pointer (£410) also had plenty of friends. Glenrossie stood on the mark and took no part in the race. Satin King was first out, but tangled and ran out wide coming round the top bend and carried Gold Treasure with him. Stanmoor led past the stand from Milo Minto, Mountain Dell, Neeoro and The Abbey. Neeoro broke crossing the top and passing the stand the next time Stanmoor was leading Reremai, Mountain Dell, Milo Minto, Gold Treasure and The Abbey. Stanmoor still had charge as they raced along the back with Reremai and Gold Treasure next. Then came Mountain Dell, Jewel Pointer, Milo Minto, Florent and Neeoro. Reremai ran into the lead crossing the top, where Stanmoor, Mountain Deli and Jewel Pointer were all going well, with Neeoro improving his position. Reremai ran out wide at the home turn, letting Mountain Dell, Jewel Pointer and Neeoro through on the fence, and in a good finish Jewel Pointer won by a length from Neeoro, who beat Mountain Dell by half a length. Rereißai, Gold Treasure and Florent were next. SALE POSTPONED. In consequence of the Ashburton race meeting next Saturday Mr J. N. Clarke’s auction sale at New Brighton has been postponed until Monday, June 29, at 1 p.m. The services of Mr Walter Simes have been retained to conduct the sale.
