PLUNKET SOCIETY HAS MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the committee of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children (the Plunket Society) was held in the Plunket rooms. There were present Mesdames J. Stevenson (in the chair), J* K. Archer, J. S. Neville. D. Sullivan, A. Bloxam, O. Rennie, 11. T. J. Thacker, A. Bunz, G. Lester, C. Chilton, J. Tait. C. Ollivier, H. J. Ballin, E. Boulton, P. Greenwood, 11. Wales, A. Al’Killop, F. Wilding, E. Wanklyn, R. AI. Alorten. K. Ballantyne, Hallows Wood. E. Cordner, L. At. Wilson, C. 1 G. Davis, L. Banks, A. W. Beaven, Douglass, T. Toolev, A. F. Roberts, AI. 11. Godby, Cecil Wood, Airs Alajor Suter and Aliss Dunsford. A report was presented on the annual meeting held on June 15, at which Sir Truby King had given an address, and the work of the sub-committee responsible for the arrangements was favourably commented upon. A meeting of the secretaries and treasurers of the sub-branches had been held during the month, and had been attended by officers from the Papanui, Sydenham-Cashmere, Opawa, Woolston, Marshland, Shirley-Richmond, IlornbyTempleton, Belfast, Kaiapoi and New Brighton branches. The hon secretary and Mrs 11. R. Smith had attended a splendid interim conference held in Dunedin to pass the amended rules of the society. These rules provided for two representatives of each sub-branch to act on the Central Committee, and also for the election of the Central Council of the society at special Provincial Conferences held every two years'throughout the Dominion. b The hon treasurer reported a donation of £5 from Airs D. R. Rutherford towards the improvements to the dairy at Karitane Hospital. For the central rooms Nurse Allan reported 100 new cases and 541 visits paid by the nurses to homes. For the Karitane Hospital the matron reported 11 babies admitted, 13 discharged, 13 in hospital, 6 mothers admitted, 7 discharged, 4 in hospital. A class of girls from the Y.W.C.A. was given a course of instruction in mothercraft during the month, and two classes for Girl Guides were being held for the same purpose. During the month new members of the society were enrolled as follows: Mesdames G. C. Gordon, R. Butcher, E. A. Hojskin, J. Penn, L. J. Hemsley, L Gopperth, N. Alills, W. J. Leslie, N. C. Goode, W. 11. Bickley, R. Walker, E Cummings, W. S. Roberts and G. S. Russell.

The Sydenham-Cashmere sub-branch reported that they would hold a fancy dress skating carnival in aid of the Violet Day Funds.
