T J? er ® w, as a good attendance, Mr R. J. G. Collins occupying the chair. Five new members, including four w°JJ»en’ were elected. The society has now nearly fifty members, six being women which is a distinction that no other philatelic society in New Zealand can claim. The secretary read a letter from the Prime Minister in reply to a request * or , a fet of air mail stamps for New Zealand. The Prime Minister stated that a set would be issued shortly, the plates being at present in the course of preparation in England. The society is publishing in the near future a handbook illustrating air mail flights of New Zealand and has approached the Prime Minister for , permission to include the proofs of the New Zealand air-mail stamps. Advice is expected from the Prime Minister after a consultation with the Post-master-General. The latest air covers from New Zealand include the following:—Return trip, first experimental flight, Australia to England (including covers to Straits Settlements, Burma and India). Tim small mails carried on these flights will prove an asset to those who have them m their collections. A few New Zealand envelopes have come to hand that were carried on the Melbourne-Hobart service shortly after its inauguration. Tt is not yet known whether they were first flights from New Zealand. A few of the Melbourne-Hobart envelopes (first flight) are now in the hands of collectors. This service commenced operations at the beginning of May. The display for the evening was provided by Mr H. D. London, who showed his collection of flown covers.
