SPREI DON SCHOOL IS CAUSE OF CONCERN.

Some concern has existed in the Spreydon district regarding the safety of the old school building, in brick, in the event of a severe earthquake. A deputation which recently waited on the Buildings Committee of the Canterbury Education Board, asked that consideration be given to the question of demolishing the brick building and erecting open-air classrooms, or, as an alternative, making such alterations as would render the structure as safe as possible.

The architect reported that there was no cause for alarm, but recommended that another door be provided as an emergency exit.

The board, at its meeting to-day-adopted the architect’s suggestion.
