REFORM CANDIDATE FOR LYTTELTON SEAT.
MR FREEMAN CHOSEN BY PARTY SUPPORTERS
Mr F. W. Freeman, who is well known in business and public life in Christchurch, will be the Reform Party’s candidate for the Lyttelton seat at the general election this year. A meeting of supporters of the party was held yesterday, when Mr B. Saville presided over an attendance representative of Cashmere, Opawa, Sumner and L}'ttelton. After discussion Mr Freeman was asked to contest the seat. He consented to stand and thanked those present for their support.
Mr Freeman was born in Christchurch in 1831 and educated at the Sydenham District School and the Christchurch Boys- High School. After three years’ survey and engineering training in South Canterbury and North Otago, Mr Freeman commenced practice as a civil engineer and land surveyor in Christchurch and has continuously been in practice of his profession for over twenty-five years. Prior to the amalgamation of Spreyrlon Borough with the Christchurch City in 1921, Mr Freeman was for many years the borough engineer and is now acting in a similar capacity for the New Brighton and Riccarton Borough Councils.
As a public man he served a term as Commissioner of the Waimakariri River Trust, representing the Christchurch district. His activities in automobile affairs are well known. Mr Freeman is also on the executive of the Canterbury Progress League and on the council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. lie is the chairman of the Port and City League’s executive. Mr Freeman is a resident of Cashmere Hills, part of the Lyttelton electorate.
