Meerschaum is found in tine, white clay-like masses, chiefly in Asia Minor and Livadia. When first taken out it is soft, and lathers like soap. It is manufactured into tobacco-pipes, which are baked to dry them, then boiled in milk, polished, and finally boiled in oil or wax.
