STREET LIGHTING WILL BE RESTORED ON FRIDAY EVENING
Power Committee Asks That Other Economies Should Be Continued.
i i Tj EGOGNISING Ihe serious public inconvenience caused XV by the lack of street lighting, and in view of the present improved position at the lake, the committee recommends to power supply authorities that street lighting should be restored up to midnight each night, commencing on Friday evening next, October 17.” The above announcement was made at the conclusion of an important meeting of the Power Economy Committee held to-day for the purpose of discussing the removal of the power restrictions.
The City Council shut down on street lighting from midnight on September 4. Since September 10 street lighting has been discontinued altogether.
The statement issued by the committee continued: — “The public is once again urged to continue all reasonable economies to assist in the recovery of the lake level, in order to reduce as far as possible the need for continued restrictions. The committee is also making representations to the Public Works Department to continue the running of those stand-by plants for which it had already made arrangements. The continued operation of these plants until the. lake level has been restored would help considerably in safeguarding the position until the supplementary plant promised by the Government to assist in carrying next winter s load is in operation. “ The committee, on behalf of the supply authorities it represents, wishes to place on record once again its thanks to the consumers generally for the splendid response to appeals and the assistance rendered in tiding over a very difficult period. m a ® ® e be a ® m ® h m s ® a s ss h hi a i
