KINGSFORD-SMITH AT ALLAHABAD.

MAKES QUICK TIME ON HOP FROM KARACHI.

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received October 15, 9.25 a.m.) ALLAHABAD, October 14. Wing-Commander Kingsford-Smith arrived at 2.15 this afternoon at Allahabad. He had flown from Karachi in quick time.

Kingsford-Smith left Heston Aero drome, London, at dawn, October 9. His stages so far have been:—

Miles October 9, Heston-Rome 850 October 10, Rome-Athens 6(50 October 11, Athens-Aleppo 775 October 12, Aleppo-Bushire 770 October 13, Bushire-Karachi 1200 October 14, Karachi-Allahabad .. 900 He is maintaining his one day lead over Miss Amy Johnson.

MATTHEWS CROSSES SAFELY TO BATAVIA.

(Received October 15, 9.25 a.m.) WELTEVREDEN, October 14. Captain F. J. Matthews arrived here this evening from Singapore. He will continue his journey to Australia as soon as possible.

Captain Matthews, who left Croydon on September IS, made excellent progress as far as Rangoon, where he was one day ahead of Bert Hinkler's record time. From Rangoon he has been dogged by ill fortune. Leaving that place on September 26, lie was forced down in Burma, a hundred miles north of Bangkok. The considerable damage to his machine was repaired, and he continued his flight on October 9, only to crash once more on his way to Singora. Resuming his flight, he arrived at Singapore on October 12.

AUSTRALIAN PLANS FLIGHT TO CANBERRA

TRADED IN MOTOR-CAR TO BUY AEROPLANE. (Received October 15, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, October 14. Entering a big West End department store, an Australian, Oscar Garden (who previously stated that he came from Christchurch, New Zealand), traded in a motor-£ar in part payment for a Gypsy Moth aeroplane in which he learned to fly with the. London Aero Club. He says he is shortly flying to Australia. He is not attempting a record, but will make the flight in leisurely stages to Canberra.- He will carry extra petrol tanks, thus delaying the issue of the air worthiness certificate. An earlier message stated that a young man who announced his intention of starting a flight to Australia landed at Croydon in a light aeroplane. After stating that his name was Oscar Garden and that his home was in Christchurch, New Zealand, he climbed into his aeroplane and flew off. MRS MILLER DELAYED BY FOG AND RAIN. (Received October 15, 11 a.m.) NEW YORK, October 14. A message from Kansas City says that Mrs Keith Miller to-day postponed her take-off from Wichita owing to fog and rain. She has expressed determination to complete the flight to Los Angeles on Wednesday night.
