The tramway takings on Wednesday were £lll3. On New Year’s Day last year the takings were £712. The large increase is no doubt due to some extent due to the w eather conditions. New Year's Day, 1929, was cold and showery. The passenger returns are not yet available. A party of -young women from Christchurch who left Culverden last Saturday on a tramping trip to Murchison, arrived there safely yesterday afternoon at 2 p.m. The route taken was over the Lewis Saddle. Good weather was experienced. The party includes Misses R. Johnston, A. E. and C. 11. Anderson, Neta Biltcliff and Harris.
