In connection with the erection of the new theatre at the corner of Manchester and High Streets, arrangements have been made for the corner of the building to be set back to a distance of Bft 6in in both streets. The City Engineer has recommended that the kerb and channelling be set back in conformity with the new alignment, and the Works Committee has given authority for the work to be proceeded with. The estimated cost is £lB. The committee’s action was approved at last night’s meeting of the City Council.
A petition signed by seventy residents Qf St Andrew’s Square and vicinity drawing attention to the very dangerous corner at the Bryndwr end of Norman’s Road, was presented to the City Council last night by Councillor Andrews. “ This is a very small matter but it is important to the people living in the vicinity,” said Councillor Andrews. He said that there had been numerous accidents at the corner, two having occurred last week. He understood that the owner of the land was prepared to give it to the council unconditionally. On the motion of Councillor Andrews, the petition was referred to the Works Committee for consideration.
