(Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, April 9. Messages from the Southern Cross on her last day aloft though short give a wonderful account of her last hours in the air. These messages, which were not cabled to New Zealand, tell of the ’plane’s hopeless battle for ten hours in the storm, prior to being forced down. The last despatch from the ’plane read:— 2.14 (to "Sun,” Sydney') : We have been hopelessly lost in dense rain for ten hours. Now going to make a forced landing at place (message faded) to be 150 knots from Wyndham in rotten country (message faded), though will communicate again as soon as possible. Cheerio.—Ulm.
