HIGHER WAGES CAUSE COUNCIL TO INVITE TENDERS FOR WORKS.
Per Press Association. DUNEDIN. March 22 The City Council had before it yesterday a recommendation that, in view of the general labourers’ recent award calling for increases which would involve £SOOO and an increase in the general rate, the finances be adjusted on a basis of employing fewer hands and, where reasonable, a tender be invited for works. It was stated that from 25 to 50 men would be affected. After discussion the report was adopted.
