ROMANCE OF OLD FRANCE SHOWS NOW AT GRAND THEATRE.

With flashing swords,, gay intrigues, daring adventures and all the romance of old France. “ Bardelys the Magnificent,” at the Grand Theatre, is a most colourful production. Written by Rafael Sabatini, the story has all the vigour and charm of that popular author, and with France of the sixteenth century as the background, his vivid imagination is allowed full play in this tale of romance and intrigue. Lover, fighter, braggart, the Marquis de Bardelys, known to the world as the “ Magnificent,” is the merriest of all at the merry court of King Louis XIII. of France. No woman withstands his charms, and no man holds him at enmity for long. When Chatellerault, a mean-spirited nobleman, returns humiliated from his failure to wed Lady Roxalanne de Lavedon he is annoyed by the amusement of the cour tiers. He forces Bardelys to wager all his possessions that he, the “ Magnificent,” will wed within three months the lady who had despised his suit. The story is one of splendid thrills and charming romance. The picture has been produced on a very lavish scale, and every effort has been made to get the right effect. Some of the scenes are outstanding, and the costumpag magnificent.
