SOLD SOME FOWLS, AND KEPT OWNER’S CASH.

Peter Olsen was convicted of theft before Mr 11. P. Lawry, S.M., this morning, and given twelve months’ probation. The charge arose from a complaint by Herbert George Hubbard, for whom accused sold some fowls, realising £3 11s 3d. The chief-detective said that the complainant lived at Lincoln, and lent accused his car to come into Christchurch. Accused undertook to take a crate of fowls to the auction rooms of H. C. Smith and Co. This he did. and received £3 11s 3d for the fowls. Instead of talcing the money back, he used it for his own purposes, thereby committing theft. Accused did mechanical work in the Lincoln district. He had been in bad health. Accused pleaded guilty, and was admitted to probation for twelve months.
