WILL NOT ACCEPT GRANTS FROM THE MACARTHY TRUST.
METHODISTS TAKE UP DEFINITE STAND.
Appreciation of the stand taken up at last'year’s conference when it was decided not to accept any further grants for charitable purposes from the T. G. Macarthy Trust was expressed at this morning’s session of the Methodist Conference by Mr H. P. Mourant, of Wellington. Mr Mourant’s remarks, were made when the report of the Wellington Methodist Charitable and Educational Endowments Trust was submitted to the conference, lie congratulated the trust board on not having accepted any. money from the Macarthy Trust. Following the attitude of the conference last year, he was pleased to see that the Presbyterian Assembly had taken a similar stand. The report of the Endowments Trust Board stated: “Owing to the decision of the 1927 Conference, no grant had been received this year from the governors of the T. G. Macarthy Estate, the application being withdrawn. Our members and friends are looked to to make up the loss in our income, which will be sorely felt unless givers see to it that we are not placed in this unhappy position." The report was adopted.
