BOYS CHARGED WITH STEALING CIGARETTES.

ORDERED GOODS FOR LEADING FIRMS, SAYS CHIEF DETECTIVE. By ringing up the firm of T. H. Green and Co., Ltd., and ordering cigarettes oil behalf of another well-known firm, two boys were able to obtain cigarettes to the value of £1 11s Bd, according to Chief Detective Lewis in the Magistrate's Court to-day. He said that the boys called at Green and Cc.'s and said they were messengers from the firm which had telephoned them. There were seven or eight charges pending. The boys, who appeared in Court, wero sixteen and fifteen years of age respectively. The elder of the two, for whom Mr Malle;/ appeared, was remanded for a week, bail being allowed in the sum of £SO and one surety of £SO. The younger boy was remanded to appear at the Children’s Court, in the meantime to be in the care of the Child Welfare Officer. In asking for suppression of the name of the elder boy, Mr Malley said that he came of respectable parents who held good positions in the community. He was extremely youthful, and his parents were desirous of placing him on a farm. The Magistrate (Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.): When there are several charges it looks as if the offences were deliberate. The fact that the boy comes of respectable parents is all the more reason why he should have been under better supervision. In the circumstan ces, I will order suppression of his name, though I make no promise of doing so again when the full facts are known.
