LEAGUE COUNCIL PROPOSES THAT N.Z. TEAM GOES ON TOUR.
(Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, July 13. On the recommendation of an advisory committee, the Rugby League last evening decided to adopt Canterbury’s proposal to seek an invitation from the Australian Board of Control for a New Zealand team to tour Australia this season. The discussion on the question arose through a cablegram from Australia advising its inability to send a team to the Dominion. Mr J. Carlaw expressed the opinion that an invitation should be sent to Queensland which, during his term of presidency, had promised to tour New Zealand this season. He moved an amendment that Queensland should be invited to New Zealand. Other speakers urged that a decision be deferred pending a reply from Australia, but the chairman said that the matter was urgent, as southern leagues were waiting to arrange fixtures for the Auckland team to tour the south. The recommendation of the advisory committee was carried.
