ATHLETIC NOTES.

J. M’Kee, the Canterbury crcss-eotm- j ; try champion, was in Wellington last ! j Saturday when he ran in the Vcsseller j j Shield race, an annual ten-mile inter- | club event. Owing to an injured ankle, however, M’Kee only ran five miles. P. Wilson, of the Olympic Club, was the first man home, but the team’s race was won by the Wellington Club, the 1 present provincial champions. It is not j knowui yet whether M’Kee's injury i's ; serious enough to prevent him running ■ in to-morrow's road race at Timaru. TomcxTcw’s Rub. To-morrow the members of the j Christchurch Harrier Club who are not j going to Timaru will hold a run from j the Canterbury Rowing Club's sheds, ; starting at about half-past two. Next i week the Christchurch Club will prob- J ably combine with the Presbyterian j Club in a run at Sumner. Good Entries. A fine field of over forty runner's has I entered for to-morrow’s Temuka to Timaru road race. Fifteen runners are ; going down from Christchurch and two j or three will be present from Dunedin, j while the remainder of the field will be ' made up by the Timaru Harrier Club, i Cox, of Dunedin, who got fastest time last year, is not in the field this year, when the scratch man, Tapp, again comes from Otago. Caithness, the handicap winner a year ago. is sure to be a starter to-morrow. Of the Christchurch men, T. K. M’Lorinan is easily the best treated by the handicapper. If his ankle stands up to the strain, he is sure to go very close to winning. C. G. Mahan haa been harshly treated, as he is entitled to at least the same mark as F. F. Simpson, of Waimate, who is also certain to go well. J. M’Kee, of Christchurch, and R. J. Hillary, of Timaru, from two of the back marks, are both capable of giving Tapp a good race for fastest time.
