LAND AGENTS’ ACCOUNTS MUST BE AUDITED.
REGULATIONS GAZETTED PROVIDING CONTROL. (Special to the “Star.") WELLINGTON, July 14. Comprehensive regulations are gazetted prescribing audit of land agents’ trust accounts. They provide for an annual audit by a qualified accountant, within three months of the beginning of every year, commencing with the year ending March 31 next. The auditor has to be approved by the Controller and AuditorGeneral, and a report of every audit must be sent to that official. Receipts are to l>e prepared in duplicate, and one clause provides that no land agent shall give or cause, or permit to be given, any such receipt except on a form taken from a book of detachable forms and non-detachable duplicates, printed by the Government Printer, and bearing a distinguishing mark and number inserted by the Government Printer. Irregularities must be reported to the Auditor-General, who has power to investigate and institute proceedings. The maximum fine for a breach of the regulations is £IOO.
