At last night’s meeting of the City Council the Canterbury Progress League wrote stating that the council s representatives were the Mayor anci Messrs 11. T. Armstrong and *• Carcv, and asking, as the City Council election took place recently, whether they were still to represent the council, or would others be appointed. A motion by Councillor A. • Beaven that Mr Carey be re-appointed, as one of the council's representatives was lost, and an amendment by Councillor D. G. Sullivan, M.P., that Councillor R. M. Macfarlane be appointed in lieu of Mr Carey was carried on the voices.
At last night’s meeting of the City Council a letter was received from the North Canterbury Hospital Board forwarding a statement of the boards estimates for the current year and advising that the council’s levy was £24,656 13s sd. The levy last year was £20.365 18s 3d and the increase of £4290 tos 2d will require an increased I rate of approximately one twentysecond of a penny in the £ on capital valuation. The letter was referred to the Finance Committee for consideraI lion.
