SCHOOLS CONTRIBUTE TO FRESH AIR HOME.

PENNY COLLECTIONS AMOUNT TO £225. The. sum of £225 4s 9d has been raised for the Children's Fresh Air Home by means of a penny collection. A report presented to the North Canterbury Hospital Board to day stated that Mrs J. O. Holmes, who bad taken a very active interest in the tuberculosis institutions and also the Children’s Fresh Air Home, instituted “penny subscriptions” from children in the various schools; also she placed collection boxes at various points in the town, with the result that, she h id collected, altogether for the Children’s Fresh Air Home a sum of £225 4s 9d. She had paid to the board previously £l6B and had now handed a further cheque for £SO. Two hundred and twenty-two schools contributed £lßl 6s lid. collection boxes in hotels, etc. £l2 6s 6d and other donations £l4 16s. The proceeds of a concert by Mrs Fryer were £l6 5s 4d. It was decided that Mrs Holmes be thanked for her help.
