Mrs David Crozicr has returned to Christchurch from a short visit to Auckland. Miss Gwen Jones has returned to Christchurch from a holiday visit in the North Island. Miss Barbara Webb is visiting Wellington. where she is the guest of Mrs Robertson, Kelburn. Mrs Claude Rawnsley. Ashburton, is spending a short holiday with her mother. Mrs J. D. L awrence, Sumner. M. ITarcourt Algcranoff and Miss Beatrice Burke, of the Pavlova theatrical company, are staying at the Clarendon Hotel. The engagement is announced of Dorothy, second daughter of Mr and Mrs X. Parker. Lyttelton, to Gavin, eldest son of Mr and Mrs P. Watson, Hals well. Guests at the Hotel Federal include: -—Mr and Mrs Burns, Mr D. Cameron and Mr E. Kirby, Dunedin, Mr E. Pierce, Auckland; Air and Mrs L. Cockroft, Invercargill; Mr J. Lang. Wellington; Miss E. Segers, Ashburton, Miss Forbes, Miss Ingram, Mrs S. Hun ter. Nelson; Mr H. Wagstaff. Timaru; and Mr E. Hansen, Wanganui. The Opawa-Woolston branch of the , W.C.T.U. met recently. There was a good attendance. A paper by Mrs Perryman on White Ribbon Day was read urging the members of the union to do all they could to increase the circulation of the “White Ribbon” paper. The Rev J. (Carlisle, of the Opawa Baptist Mission, gave an address stressing the need for continued activity in the work to which the members were pledged. The president thanked Mr Carlisle for his address. It was stated that the Rev .1. F. Coursey had expressed his. willingness to address the next, meeting in July. Afternoon tea was served. A verv enjoyable evening was spent on Thursday at the home of Mr and j Mrs Faulkner, Edgeware Road, when a kitchen evening was given in honour ! of the approaching marriage of Mr T. { Berry and Miss M. Page. The evening was spent in games and musical items. J Among those present were; Miss May j Page.
