TRAY BIT WON IN BAND COLLECTION.
BUT SOVEREIGN FOUND ITS WAY INTO THE PLATE. A generous man dropped a sovereign into the plate in aid of the unemployed fund at yesterday’s band concert, but 466 other persons contented themselves with what Sir Harry Lauder calls a “ thruppeny bit ” —the church's one foundation. However, the aggregate of £4l 4s 6d was made up of fairly respectable coins. It is estimated, on the assumption that the copper contributors gave an average of a penn\ r each, and that everybody else gave one coin only, that 1474 persons contributed.
