WAR ON NOISE.
Interesting experiments have been made recently in London and other places in the deadening of sound in workshops and offices and also in the correction of bad acoustics in public buildings. Material known as “ Cabot's Quilt,” composed of sea-wced found in Canadian waters, is used for both purposes. The board room of the new Liberty building off Regent Street has been treated to minimise street traffic noises. As the result of lining the ceiling with the material, which has peculiar sound-absorbing properties, it was found that the noise in the room was reduced by about fifty-five per cent. At the Monico Restaurant the material has been used to tone down the orchestra to a point at which it does not interfere with the conversation of the diners.
