MOTORISTS SIGN UP FOR INSURANCE.
The council of the Canterbury Automobile Association met last night; present—Messrs W. H. Nicholson (president), H. K. Kennett, A. D. Dobson, H. O. Harlev, W. R. Carey, F. W. Johnston, If. M. Garrick, J. M. Wilkie, V. Russell, F. D. Sargent, J. Bathgate and Dr P. S. Foster. The chairman reported that a large number of inquiries were being received regarding the South Island Motor Union’s new insurance scheme and many were signing up. It was decided to make a grant of £5 os to the Canterbury Progress League. Twenty-four new members were elected. Mr Garrick referred to the way cars were parked outside the old City Council Chamber in Oxford Terrace day and night. He stated that frequently there were so many cars there that they were right outside the line of the footpath, and motorists coming from Worcester Street into Oxford Terrace had to make a. very sharp turning. Mr Sargent remarked that under the new by-laws there would be no parking there at all. The chairman said that he did not think it advisable for the association to do anything at present. When the new by-laws were in operation (here would be a ten minutes’ parking limit at such places.
