RIFLE AND RANGE

WITH THE .303: BY

“TRIGGER.”

CHRISTCHURCH MINIATURE RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

A meeting: of delegates from affiliated dubs was field last week to consider th 4 questions of the new range, which is about ready for use by the Christchurch Association. The following clubs were represented:—Sydenham, Railway, Kaiapoi Woollen, New Brighton, Sumner, Heathcote, Burwood, Christchurch Working Men's Club, Cashmere, W. 11. Harris, Ltd., Returned Soldiers’ Association, New Brighton Ladies. Owing to the disbandment of the “Lyttelton Times” Club and the Sydenham and Working Men's Clubs procuring ranges of their own the local association has had to rearrange its position of finance owing to the small number of clubs which will be renting the ranges at headquarters. It was finally decided that a minimum levy of £2 be paid by those clubs having ranges of their own. Additional promises of support were received from several of those clubs represented at the meeting. The levy does not apply to the two young clubs, Burwood and Ileathcote. The closing of entries for the winter tournament was fixed for Monday, May 17. tv :: :: MID-CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIPS. The mid-Canterbury championship meeting will take place at Ashburton on Thursday, June 3. Last week I received a letter from Mr F. Clark, the popular secretary of the Ashburton Association, and a copy of the programme, which will be printed in a few days* time. The matches will be as follows: No. I, Champion Teams’ Match, open to all members of one club with teams of five men, ten shots and optional sighter. 25 yards. (Winning team to hold the New Zealand Miniature Rifle Challenge Shield, presented by the citizens of Ashburton.) First prize, five silver cups; second prize, five silver cups; third prize, five silver cups. Entry fee, 10s per team. No. 2.—The Ashburton Match, open to all comers, ten shots, one optional righter, 25 yards. First prize, £2; second. £1 1 Os; three prizes cf £1 each, and eight prizes of 10s each. Entry

Jins year the individual championship is combined" witji the Grand Aggregate Match, which, will consist of the highest aggregate scores in the Teams' Match and the Ashburton Match. Competitors not shooting in the Teams’ Match may enter for the championship and will be allowed a shoot for that purpose. First prize, trophy \ r alue £3 3s and £5 cash; second prize, £4; third prize, £3; fourth, £2; two prizes of £1 10s each; six prizes of £1 each; and ten prizes of 10s each. Entry fee, 6s. A special prize of a trophy valued at £f ‘4s will be given in the grand aggregate to the highest scorer, who must l*c a member of a club shooting in the Ashburton County. • All entries close on May 31 with F. Clark. 28, Peter Street, Ashburton. Mr Clark informs me that the prize list will be paid out in full independent of what the entry may be. The programme is quite the best yet put

on by the Ashburton Association, which is to be congratulated for providing a third prize of five silver cups in the Champion Teams’ Match, as in past years many a team has just been squeezed out in the prize list when

only two prizes have been given. The making of the championship aggregate to carry the principal prize list is also an improvement, and with an addition of nearly £ls in prize money, besides additional trophies, the meeting warrants excellent support. A new club is being formed at Lyttelton with a range at the local drill halL The writer is informed' that a team will be entered in the junior competition of the winter tournament.

Several clubs, this season will be strengthened in their junior teams by members joining up from the “ Lyttelton Times” and Sydenham Buffaloes Clubs, which for this year have been disbanded.
