MR E. C. CHEGWIN, WELLKNOWN BOWLER, DIES.
The death; occurred yesterday of Mr E. C. Chegwin, a well-known resident of Christchurch. Mr Chegwin was born in the parish of Illogan, near R.edruth, Cornwall. He served .his (apprenticeship as a joinery and, on arrival in New Zealand 53 vjj&irs ago worked as a journeyman carpenter. wards became a contractor and built many of the prominent hotels in Christchurch. For the past 25 years Mr Chegwin was a prominent bowler, first as a member of the Sydenham Club and afterwards as a member of Beckenham. In his time he was president of both clubs. For' many years he took part in the Dominion tournaments and had a good deal of success. Last year he was made a life member of the Beckenham Club. As a bandsman, as a Trades’ Unionist, as a militia man, as a member of the Builders’ Association, or as a bowler, he was noted for the amount of enthusiasism he put into his activities, and he will be long remembered by his many friends.
He leaves a widow and one son, Mr F. C. Chegwin, Wellington, and three daughters. Mrs Welsford, Christchurch, Mrs Toll, Christchurch, and Mrs Batley, Sydney.
