RICCARTON COUNCIL.
MEETING LAST NIGHT. The Riccarton Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr H. S. S. Kyle, M.P., presiding. There were also present: Messrs L. W. Austin, A. F. Fisher, A. E. Steere, H. Gudsell, H. Manhire, H. W. Wise, T. M. Ford and J. F. Peters. The chairman reported that Mrs FT. Rhodes had consented to the council’s request that the corner of her property on Mandeville Street be rounded off to lessen the danger to traffic. It was decided that a letter of thanks be sent to Mrs RJiodes. The Works Committee s report outlined the work that had been done in connection with the repairing of roads. Straven Street had been scarified, recrowned and rolled throughout. Moorhouse Avenue was undergoing repairs of a similar nature. The footpath In Broadbent Street had been repaired. The Electricity Committee’s report stated that new heavy main lines were being erected along Riccarton Road. Links bad been erected at the corner of Riccarton Road and Picton Avenue. The Finance Committee in submitting tlieir report recommended that accounts amounting to £I3S2 10s Id be passed for pavment. The reports were adopted. A letter was received from the Christchurch Drainage Board stating that the board had agreed to the laying of a subsidiary sewer along Riccarton Road. Mr Ford moved that in future all committees call tenders for all material vequired by the council, provided the value of such material be £IOO or over. Mr Manhire seconded, the motion, which was carried. Messrs Wise. Ford, Gudsell and Peters were appointed a special committee to go into drainage matters.
