Crime cannot be halted by whipping posts, long sentences, or hangings at sunrise. It is time we got at the cause rather than the result. “ Many noted students of crime believe much of our lawlessness grows out of maladjustment of the peppy youth in a too highly integrated world. Had they been horn a few generations earlier they probably would have become pony express riders, vigilantes, or Texas rangers. Adventure calls, but the only adventure most of them can find now is driving a beer truck or stealing an automobile. An outlet must be found for their adolescent energies before they take to crime.”
