GATE-KEEPER MISSING AFTER CROSSING CRASH

MAY BE AMONGST THE MANGLED VICTIMS.

By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. SYDNEY', May 1. The victims of the Cheltenham level crossing smash were John Caire, Mrs Bertha Caire (wife of the former John Caire), Clifton Caire, Mrs Clifton Caire and Iverna Caire. The police failed to find the gatekeeper after the smash. They consider the bodies so mangled that he might be one of them. The fact that the gates were open indicates that he was on duty shortly before the crash. The engine driver and fireman state that neither saw the car till they were ten yards from it, but then it was too late to avert the accident. They applied the brakes and pulled up in fifty yards. The engine and the two folio-wing cars were derailed.
