ANNIVERSARY “STAR” MUCH APPRECIATED.
To the Editor. Sir, —I notice the “Star” has reached the opposite side of the world, and has been twinkling over England and its light has revealed the whereabouts of Mr John Bishop Rutland, an old Christchurch boy who has promised you some interesting notes of happenings from 1851 to 1907. lie is loud in his expressions of his appreciation of the Christmas and anniversary number (1925) of the “Star” and more particularly of the article “Whatley Road in the sixties, by Mr R. EGreen.” That’s very nice and I thank Mr Rutland for his expressions of appreciation of my efforts to revive the past. I have received over three score oi letters couched in similar terms from many parts far and near, but Mr Rutland's is from the most distant. I wonder where the next will come from ? It must be very gratifying to the “Star” to receive testimony of appreciation from readers from such distant parts for the volume of news and information contained in the “Star” of December 16, 1925. Many persons have expressed themselves to me in glowing terms of the magnitude of that number, and 1 know several who are. keeping a copy of that issue to hand down to posterity.—l am, etc., R. E. GREEN.
