MUSSOLINI BECOMES TREASURE HUNTER.
WILL DRAIN WATER FROM LAKE TO FIND SUNKEN VALUABLES OF CAESARS By Telegraph.—Press Abbii.—Copyright. Sydney Sun ” Cable. ROME, April 28. Signor Mussolini has ordered an immediate attempt to be. made to recover the Imperial Treasure ships lying at the bottom of Lake. Nemi. It will probably be decided to tunnel through the side of the extinct volcano, the crater of which at present forms tho bed of Lake Nc.mi, thus emptying the lake. There have been previous attempts to recover the ships which the Roman Emperors probably used as a summer resort. They arc believed to contain untold intrinsic and artistic wealth. Nemi is situated seventeen miles south-east of Rome. The lake is the crater of an extinct volcano and is surrounded by thick woods which were in ancient times famous for the worship of Diana. It discharges its .waters by a tunnel of very ancient, origin. The village of Nemi, on its border, is overlooked by a feudal castle.
