MANY MORE APPLES TO BE EXPORTED.
(Special to the “Star ") WELLINGTON, April 30.
Cabinet has decided on the recommendation of the Minister of Agriculture, (the Hon O. Hawken) to further extend by 100,000 the maximum of
cases of export apples covered by the Government's guarantee. In other words the limit is raised from 650,000 to 750,000 cases. The guarantee covers freight and charges and one penny per pound net profit on a 40!bs case. Tho penny would amount to 3s and the freight and charges to about 10s, or 13s Orl a case, so the nominal liability on 750,000 cases would be £500,000 assuming a total loss. A total loss is of course unthinkable. Hast year the guarantee cost the Government about £3OOO. Assuming proportionate results the cost this year should not be much above £10,00.1. For export purposes it. is a bumper year and the guarantee has enabled the big surplus to be sent out. ..
