MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender for drunkenness was fined 10s in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. (Before Mr 11. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) CIVIL BUSINESS. UNDEFENDED CASES. Judgment was given for the plaintiffs in the following undefended cases:— R. A. Harden v Frederick D. Gilray. £l4, J. E. M’Gee v Mrs Charlotte Mathers.. £l6 17s, Glenmore Brick and. Tile Company Ltd., v G. Moorhead, costs only, Nash N.Z. Motors Ltd., v T. Burke £3 18s, Paparua County Council v William Rowe. £4 18s lOd; New Brighton Borough Council v Ambrose Lye, £5 6s 7d: same v Alfred Langley Philip Gibbon. £3 9s 3d. JUDGMENT SUMMONS. F. Cottingham was ordered to pay Daly Bros. £3 10s 6d in default four days’ imprisonment.
The following cases were dealt with yesterday afternoon: MAINTENANCE.
John Gearchawski was proceeded against for disobedience of a maintenance order. He was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment, to be released Upon payment of £5 5s arrears. On a similar charge, Joseph Harrison May was given a month’s imprisonment to be released upon payment of arrears amounting; to £l4. Two months in gaol were ordered in the case of John Simons, fQC disobedience of a maintenance order. lie will be released upon his paying £26 Ss arrears. Charles Mayo was ordered to pay 30s a week maintenance for his wife, and 10s a week for each of his three children; and to contribute past maintenance amounting to £24. Harold Petheran was adjudged to be the father of an unborn illegitimate child, and was ordered to pay witnesses’ expenses £2 17s, solicitor's fee £2 2s. and to give security in the sum .of £IOO. Charlie Young, a Chinaman, for disobedience of a maintenance in respect of bis illegitimate child, was given one month's imprisonment, the warrant to lie withheld so long as he paid 2s 6d a week off arrears of £6 7s 6d, in addition to ordinary payments. CHARGE OF STEALING. On a charge of stealing, at Auckland, a sa.xaphone valued at £43. the property of Lewis R. Eady and Sons, Ltd.* Harold Gordon Stanley Wolfe was remanded to appear at Auckland on May
