MORE BOOST FOR AUCKLAND.

BOXING MAN TALKS OF HIGHER PLANE.

(Special to the "Star.") AUCKLAND, April 2S. “We have produced a galaxy of amateur talent, and T think I am right in saying that in thi? respect Auckland is on an infinitely higher plane than anv other place in the world." declared Mr \Y. E. 1 Tackett at the annual meeting of the Northern Boxing Association. The user of this rather sweeping statement was emphatically denouncing the movement which is on foot to differentiate between the control of amateur and professional boxing. He said that under the present organisation the amateurs grew up gradually until they reached the stage when, if they wished, they could graduate into the professional class, and he suggested that representations should be made to the Minister of Internal Affairs to amend the legislation to permit of bouts for more experienced amateurs lasting eight or ten rounds of two minutes each. This would give them a valuable experience. “During the coming year we are expecting strife." said the president. Mr E. A. Craig., "but we are going to fight clean for the rights of the association." The position had been fully explained to the Minister of Internal Affairs, and they would continue to bring the matter under his notice. He did not think that the new movement would meet with any success.
