WIDOW CLAIMS £120,000 FROM ZAGHLOUL PASHA
HUSBAND WORKED TO SECURE INDEPENDENCE FOR STATE—AT A PRICE.
By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and Is*. 2. Cable Association. CAIRO. April 27. An interesting lawsuit has begun on behalf of Mrs Folk, widow of an American, Joseph W. Folk, one time Governor of Missouri, against the co-defenders, Zaghloul Pasha and Mohamed Ppsha Mahmud, for £120,000. Counsel stated that Mahmud went to America and negotiated an agreement under which Folk was to conduct a propaganda campaign in favour of Egyptian independence, receiving 5000 dollars monthly for two years, plus £IOO,OOO in the event of success. Counsel produced receipts showing that Folk actually received 35,000 dollars and affirmed that Folk was actively engaged from 1910 to 1921, when the agreement was terminated by cable from Zaghloul. The widow now sues for‘expenses, arrears of salary and the. £IOO,OOO. counsel arguing that Egypt has become a sovereign and independent State and he described Folk’s efforts towards the consummation of this condition. The hearing was adjourned.
