Mrs Tonge, acting first officer, presided over i\ good attendance of members at the meeting of the Selwvn Nursing Division of the St John Ambulance Brigade, on Tuesday evening. One new member was proposed, after which Miss M'Cullam gave a demonstration on “Sponging a Patient in Bed" and Miss Donnell on “Bed-Making for n Rheumatic Patient." A vote of thanks was accorded the demonstrators.

Dancing to the haunting strains of Manuel llyman’s Band at the Winter Garden on Tuesday next, many will recall with pleasure happy days spent at the Exhibition. During their engagement at the Cabaret, they have delighted thousands with their playing, and it is safe to state that a popular welcome will be accorded them on their appearance in this city. A further feature will be a grand jazz ballet to be presented by the pupils of Miss MacDonald. Tickets should be obtained immediately from The Bristol.

Sir Henry Simson, the London surgeon who attended the Duchess of York, has friends all over England. The newspapers reveal that Sir Henry Simson’s rise to fame has been the outcome of the. Queen’s intense interest in the welfare of poor mothers. When visiting the Soho Square free hospital she. was so impressed by accounts of his great skill, ungrudgingly given, that she immediately engaged him for Princess Mary. Sir Henry is the husband of Lena Ashwell, the actress, and the Anzecs’ most popular entertainer at front-line concert parties.

A meeting of the Social Hygiene Committee was held in the rooms. Chancery Lane, on Friday. April 23. Mrs Roberts presided. A notice of the renewal of the annual grants was received from the Hospital Board. Mrs Roberts reported having given addresses at Dunedin and Oamaru and that she was giving a series of talks to the Girl Guides at St Luke’s and to the Maori mothers at Tuahiwi. A letter was read frogn the British Social Hygiene Council inviting the Christchurch society to affiliate. It was agreed that this should be done and that the Minister of Health be asked for the necessary credentials. It was also decided that Mrs Henderson Bcgg be asked to act, as the society’s representative in London. Dunedin, and Mrs Graham Watson returned to Timaru from The Hermitage vesterdav and are the guests of Mrs \V. T. Ritchie, Tc Tawa, Glcniti.
