ANTI-DUMPING REGULATIONS ASKED.
CANTERBURY WHEAT MEN SEE MINISTERS.
(Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, April 29, The dumping of Australian flour into New Zealand was the subject of a deputation to Mr O. J. Ilawken, Minister of Agriculture, and Mr W. Downie Stewart, Minister of Customs, today. The deputation comprised Mr Cooper, president of the Canterbury A. and P. Association, Mr Gibson and Mr H. S. S. Kyle M.P.
The deputation declared that Australian flour was being sold at Auckland at £2 a ton less than the same flour was sold to Australian bakers. This had a prejudicial effect on New Zealand . wheat as was shown by the fact' that its price was two shillings a bushel less than the imported Australian variety. They asked the Government to adopt the recommendations of the Canterbury conference that antidumping regulations be applied to Australian flour and that the duty be increased to above the parity of wheat duty. The discussion was private and will be resumed in the afternoon.
