MORE LIGHTS FOR STERETS.

REQUESTS ACCEDED TO BY CITY COUNCIL. The City Council has had many requests for additional light for city and suburban streets, and recently the Electricity Committee made a general inspection. As a result the committee recomme.nded the installation of lamps in the following places:— Warrington Street, between Forfar Street and Francis Avenue, St Albans. Springfield Road, between Edgeware Road and Ranfurly Street. St Albans. dare Road, between Onslow Street and Papanui Road, St Albans. Domain Terrace, Spreydon, opposite the entrance to the domain. Two lamps. Ferry Road, between Woolston Park and Hargood Street, Woolston. Manning Place, Woolston. Harrow Street, between Glasgow Street and Aldwin’s Road. Linwood. Glasgow Street, Linwood, in the blind portion of the northern end of the street. Newcastle Street, Linwood, between Glasgow Street and Aldwin’s Road. Chelsea Street, Bromley, in the blind portion of the north-eastern end of the street. St Hellers Street, Linwood. Rhona Street, Linwood. Liverpool Street, City. The committee added that it was not possible to meet all the requests for street lighting, but the above were noted as the- result of a systematic inspection, and the committee recommended their early installation. Referring to Woolston, the committee stated that the whole of the street lighting in that district had now been changed over to the city high tension series system, and the fifty-six additional lamps previously authorised by the council were put into service on March 24. These included new lamps in various parts of the borough, and eight in Ferry Road from the Ferry Bridge northwards—a portion of a main thoroughfare not hitherto lighted. The net result, was a marked improvement in the existing lighting of the borough, and the extension of lighting to areas not previously provided for. The report was adopted.
