A Milan telegram says the late Signor Puccini’s “Tuiandot” is an astonishing spectacle with a feast of colour and a brilliant cast, but the music only is important and characteristic in the third act, when action ceases and the fantastic becomes intensely human. The character of the beautiful and cruel Princess Tu ran dot did not appeal to Puccini's genius like the slave girl Liu, which is a creation resembling Mimi in ** La Boheme.” The opera has been successfully completed by Alfano, but the conclusion was not played on the opening might.
