COMPETITIONS ARE BETTER; WILL START ON FRIDAY.

The Competitions Festival season has again come round, and it is expected that the attractions offered to the public will be better than ever. Each succeeding year sees an improvement in the standard of work, and an extension of the number and variety of the classes. The opening will take place in the Caledonian liall, where in the evening will be staged the finals of the classes heard during the day. Many clever young performers have entered, and in the senior classes the competitors include capable performers from Christchurch and other cities. The musical and elocutionary classes are well filled, and excellent recitals will be the rule for the evening sessions. Arrangements have been made for the sale of season tickets. The festival will extend over three weeks, during which there will be morning, afternoon and evening sessions.
