WHEN THE ALL BLACKS MEET THE SPRINGBOKS.
BY SINBAD. Oh. come, ye earnest football men, who gather in the Rugby fold, for you I take to-day my pen, in order that the tale be told, of Springboks perking up again, South Africa is getting bold. When Porter and his merry band, their record breaking tour began, and cleaned up all in Blighty’s land, the Springboks marvelled to a man. Said they, “ Let them not seek our strand, or they to us would tie a can. When last our players toured N.Z., the honours in the tests were split. And we since then have often said, that we would like another hit. This Maoriland has forged ahead, and seems to lead us by a bit. Our hopes just now are not so great, nor are our hearts for bat. tie fired, we think that we had better wait, ere we invite this team admired; until, say, nineteen twenty-, eight, when all their cracks may have retired.” Oh, this is all but shifting sand, the Springboks build their hopes upon, though Steel now watches from the stand, and Richardson at last has gone, they’ll soon find out that Maoriland, has even better coming on.
