ALLIANCE OF LABOUR DISCUSSED.

P. AND T. MEETING LAPSES. The question of whether or not the Post and Telegraph Association should be affiliated with the Alliance of T.aborning of the North Canterbury section of the association on Saturday night, the meeting being closed by Cue chairman, Mr 11. B. Ward, after it had been .in progress for some considerable time, owing to ihe lack of sufficient members quorum. In accordance with notice given, Mr A. T. Ward moved: •'That the executive take steps to rescind the motion relative to the decision to affiliate with ihe Alliance of Labour." In doing .so, he su’d that before affiliation with the Alliance was decided on, Post an I Telegraph employees got certain consideration and benefits that had since been stopped. He submitted that instead < C gaining anything by deciding to affiliate with, ihe Alliance, the members of the Association had, in fact, gone back. At the time the question of affiliation was being discussed, he had stated that no good would come of the action, and he subnet ted that his words had come true. Mr King, in seconding the motion, said that when the motion approving of affiliation was being considered, it was carried mainly because a lot of young boys had voted for it. Mr Turner said that there was no chance of any Government in future allowing public servants to join up with an outside labour organisation owing to the confidential nature of their work. Other business had been discussed during the meeting and prior lo this subject being dealt with, or during the time it was before the meeting, a number of those present took their departure. This was noticed by Mr Wilson, who accordingly drew the attention of the chairman to the fact that oni> seventeen were then present, such a number not constituting a quorum. The chairman said that such was undoubtedly the case, although there was a quorum when the meeting commenced. In the circumstances he had no option but to declare the meeting closed, leaving the matter to be discussed at a later date. J
