Despite secrecy as to the time of the ceremony a great crowd gathered j at St Mark’s Church, Audley Street, to witness the religious marriage of j the Earl of Cardigan and Miss Joan > vSalter, who were secretly married at j a registry office last July. The disclosure of the latter fact pro- j vided a society sensation last week. j The inquisitive throng was duped by j the bride and bridegroom entering and ; leaving by the back door of the church. The ceremony was long over before the spectators realised that they had been tricked. The bride, who is the daughter of an Isle of Wight architect, had been living with friends since July, while the bridegroom was completing his studies at Oxford. The Earl of Cardigan is twenty-on© years of age.
