Mr and Mrs H Moore, of Greymouth, arc visiting Christchurch. Mrs H. 8. Lawrence. Fendaltou, lias returned to Christchurch from Dunedin. Mrs R. ,J . Seddon, who was visiting her daughter. Mrs W. S. Bean. Addington, has returned to Wellington. Sir John and Lady Findlay, who are at present in Christchurch, will leave for Wellington this evening. Mrs J. Mackenzie, Hnnmer, is staying with Mrs R. A. Rickman, Church Street West, Timaru. Mr and Mrs M’Govern, Bank of New South Wales, Timaru, are in Auckland. Mrs 11. H. "Waucliop, Heaton Street, who was in Timaru for The races, has returned to Christchurch. Mrs li. F. Button has returned to Christchurch from a short visit to Timaru. Mr and Mrs J. W. Caramack. London, who are touring New Zealand, are at present in Christchurch, and are staying at Warner's Hotel. Mrs Barron (Wellington) and Mrs Ronaldson (Christchurch) are the guests of Mrs A. Grant, “ Aigantighe,” Wai-iti Road, Timaru. Ciaptain . and the 'Hon Mrs Tabu Rhodes. Christchurch, were at Four Peaks with Mrs Blundell-Hawkes foi the races. Mrs Hugh Ejisor. who was visiting in Timaru, has arrived in Christchurch, and is staying at the United Service Hotel. Mrs G. L. Rutherford and Miss Betty Rutherford have returned to Macdonald Downs, after a few days in Mrs M. J. Friedlander, of Auckland, who was visiting in the south. has arrived in Christchurch, and will leave for the north this evening. Miss T. A. Bryant, and Miss Bryant, of Sydney are visiting Christchurch, and are staying at Warwick House, Armagh Street. A letter has been received from the office of the Prime Minister conveying the appreciation of Mrs Massey for the message of sympathy from the members of the Mothers’ Union in her extreme anxiety. Visitors to Mount Cook by Saturday’s car from Timaru were :—Mr and Mrs Davies (Wellington), Mr and Mrs W. R. Laseelles, Mrs Earl, Miss Gillies (Christchurch). Mr and Mrs W. Scott (Dunedin). The engagement is announced of Agnes, only daughter of the late Mr H. Anderson and Mrs Anderson, of SfcrathavtheT,” Ladbrooks, to Alexander, youngest son of Mr and Mrs R. Sloss, I>eainington Downs. Cheviot. Guests at the Hotel Federal include the following:—Mr T. R. Joseph, Sydney ; Mr A\. A. D. Cox, Chatham Islands; Mr W. J. Reid, Auckland; Mr F. T. Cornish. New South Wales; Mr I'. M. Cottrell, Cheviot; Mr and Mrs Nees, Marlborough ; Mrs Lyttle, Waiau; Mrs G. W. Davies, Dunedin; Mr IT. F. Steinson, Oamavu; Mr and Miss Service, Ashburton. A pleasant surprise party was taken to the residence of Mrs Jopp, Hereford Street, on Saturday evening, where a most enjoyable time was spent with music, games and com petit ions. Among those present were:—Mrs Jopp, Miss Blaekham, .\lesdame3 Cherry, Nightingale. Pollock, Fowler, Sugden, Misses E. Thomson, N. Thomson, I. M’Donald, D. Bramley (Ashburton), N. Ashworth, Messrs S. ThomThe Dixie Jazz Club held its fourth weekly dance on Saturday night at the Rendezvous. The evening took the form of a jazz carnival, the arrangements being well carried out by Mr A. Reeves, M.C., and Messrs A. C. "\ incent and Alan Stanton. The dance hall was charmingly decorated, numerous balloons lending colour to the occasion. Paper hats and streamers were distributed during the evening, and the guests entered enthusiastically into the carnival spirit. Bright music was supplied bv the Dixie Plavers’ Orchestra, under Mr E. Rice, aiid the evening was voted a pronounced j success by all present.
