From: Our Correspondent. ASHBURTON, April 30. LADIES’ HOCKEY. The ladies’ hockey section oi the Allenton Sports Club has decided to enter a senior and a junior team in the county competitions. Miss M. Willers has resigned from the captaincy, and Miss Moodie has been appointed in her stead, with Miss O. Cartwright vice-captain. Miss R. Templeton will fill the vacancy on the committee. Mr A. G. M’Hardy hao been appointed coach. NEW METHODIST CHURCH. Good progress is being made with the erection of the new Methodist church in Baring Square. The brickwork has reached the stage that demands high scaffolding. It is hoped to open the church about November. MOTOR-CAR BURNED. A fire at 6.15 o’clock this morning' destroyed a motor-car and shed belonging to Mr Hubert Addis, of Havelock Street. Despite the efforts of the Fire Brigade, only the bodywork and engine of the car, and the galvanised iron of the shed were left. A gramophone and records, garden- hose and some household effects were also burned. Mr Addis states that when on a ’trip to Wakanui last evening the back seat of the car caught alight. The blaze was, stamped out temporarily, but the cushion probably continued to smoulder after the car was lodged m the slied. There was no ipsprapee on the car or shed. The total loss is estimated at nearly £3OO. Several pigeons and canaries in an aviary on one side of the shed were burned. The doors were thrown open, j and some of the birds made good their ’ escape. Several have since returned.
