The Rev J. J. North was a passenger Ly this morning’s ferry steamer. AYchbishop Redwood left Christchurch for Dunedin to-day. Sir George Fenwick (Dunedin) who spent yesterday in Christchurch, went south this morning. Messrs James Edgar and John Mallard (Dunedin), are staying at tbe I Clarendon Hotel. Messrs Douglas J. Taylor, A. W. Hawley (Wellington), and F. Stallman (Sydney) are among the recent arrivals at Warner's Hotel. Mr Llewellyn B. Evans has been appointed Government representative on the Waimakariri Harbour Board in place of Mr Thomas £. Keetiey, reMr S. J. Collett. Chief Clerk of tbe Tourist and. Health Resorts Department. arrived at Greymouth on Wednesday from Recfton. after a_tf-ax4*f inspection of the lesser known tourist resorts in the Nelson and Tleefton districts. • Mr G. J. E. Bickford, who has been manager of the Dannevirke branch of the Bank of New Zealand for twentynine years, retired yesterday on superannuation. The occasion was marked by a representative gathering cf the business community, who paid eulogistic 'tributes to Mr Bickford as a banker, a public man man and as a citizen. The citizens’ presentation will be made late-. Feeling reference to the “passing West” of many stalwarts of Rugby during the past twelve months was made by Mr H. Frost (president) at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby* Union yesterday afternoon. Among the number referred to were: Dr A. K. Newman, M.LC.. past president and a loyal supporter of the game : Dr H. E. Hiddlestone, of Chrastfchurch, an old player and referee, and a member of last year’s Appeal Committee; and Mr George Williams, a member of the 1888 New Zealand team which toured Great Britain. Mr Frost stated that the late Mr Williams was an interested spectator both at the departure and return of tlie 1924 All Blacks. Sincere sympathy was extended to relatives, and as a mark of respect to the mem-' orv of thede ceased gentlemen all delegates stood in silence.
